Abstract:

This layer apparently shows lands in Butte, Montana, that were formerly owned by ARCO as late as 1984 and gives the names of their owners as of 1986. Apparently ARCO sold most of these properties between 1984 and 1986. The lands whose OWNER84 field value are 1 were presumably owned by ARCO. A group of parcels on Timber Butte have an OWNER84 value of 0, and these may have been added to the layer earlier as parcels that were also owned by ARCO.

The data source was a paper 1:12,000 scale Anaconda Company map provided by Sara Weinstock of the Environmental Protection Agency. The State Library digitized the map section by section for better registration.

These data were formerly available from the Montana State Library web site but were removed because they are potentially out of date. Please contact the Federal Superfund Bureau of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality if you want these data so they may tell you if newer or better data are available. If the data are not available from the Department of Environmental Quality, you may request a copy from the Montana State Library data archive.
